Pickett helping out Tigers

Javon Pickett has been a man of many trades for Missouri lately.

Since committing to the Tigers in early June, Pickett has since reclassified to the 2018 class and started prep school at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas. Fellow Missouri pledge KJ Santos is an alum of the school.

The 6-foot-4 wing has been spending time working on his jump shot and ball handling in anticipation of the season starting on Oct. 6.

“It’s been going good,” he told PowerMizzou.com. “Just working out and trying to get better. There’s not much to do. You just go to school, home and to the gym.”

Aside from improving as a player, Pickett has also been a factor on the recruiting trail for the Tigers.

The Belleville, Illi. native has been in the ear of fellow local E.J. Liddell, a major 2019 target for Missouri as well as junior teammate Malik Hall, who also holds a Missouri offer.

Pickett has been friendly with Liddell for years but has recently started to become close with Hall.

“I’ve been talking to him a little,” he said. Getting to know him a little bit since I got here. I talk to him about coming and stuff like that. Going to see what it’s like.”

Rated a three-star recruit by Rivals, Pickett said he’s in constant contact with Missouri’s coaches and also talks to junior point guard Terrence Phillips and recent commit Torrence Watson.

Watson is another player that Pickett has known for years since they hail from the same area. Pickett said the two have started talking more since Watson got on board and added that they’ve “become close.”

Pickett was in Columbia this weekend for an unofficial visit and isn’t sure if he’ll end up taking an official visit to the campus.

He’s currently undecided on a college major but hopes to sit down with his family soon to decide on one.
